Thai police detained 124 people who participated almost completely naked in a “drug party” in the center of Bangkok. The event was attended almost exclusively by young men, including local businessmen, doctors and celebrities.
Pansa Amarapitak from the Thai police told the media that early on Sunday morning the authorities received a notification about a “drug party” taking place in one of the hotels in central Bangkok. On site, the police found a large group of people partying only in their underwear in one of the rented spaces. The event was interrupted and all 124 people on site were detained. They were almost exclusively young men and two women.

Illegal drugs, including ecstasy and methamphetamine, were found in the possession of 31 of the detained people, the police said. The presence of drugs was also detected in the bodies of 66 participants of the event. Pansa Amarapitak said police are now seeking court permission to detain people suspected of possessing drugs for longer than 48 hours. The remaining people were released.
Local journalist Sirote Klampaiboon published on X a photo of the police operation at the hotel. In the entry, he indicated that the “drug-fueled event” was attended by, among others, actors, directors of famous beauty clinics, professors, doctors and celebrities. He noted that, according to reports, tourists also took part in the event, and all of them were said to have a “muscular” body build.
Illegal drug trade
Thailand is the main center of the illegal drug trade in Southeast Asia, and police raids and seizures of drugs such as heroin and methamphetamine are frequent, AFP reported on Monday. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), a record 190 tonnes of methamphetamine was seized in East and Southeast Asia last year.
Possession of drugs such as ecstasy and methamphetamine in Thailand is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
