Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Sabrina Carpenter – songs by these artists, among others, were included in the ranking of the 20 best songs of the year prepared by “The Guardian”. The list was published on Friday, and its final shape was decided by 26 music journalists of the daily.
On Friday, the editors of “The Guardian” shared their ranking of the 20 best songs of 2024. The list included both songs by well-established artists, such as Beyoncé or Lady Gaga, as well as songs by less recognizable artists, such as Yaeji or MJ Lenderman. This year's hit of the latter, “Wristwatch”, took last place. Yaeji song titled “Booboo” took 17th place. Among them were “Sexy to Someone” by Clairo and “Disease” by Lady Gaga.
The best songs of 2024
Beyoncé's hit “Texas Hold 'Em”, which announced Beyoncé's new album, was ranked 16th on the chart. Places 15 to 10 went to: “Reckless” by Kassie Krut, “We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” by Ariana Grande, “Right Back to It (ft MJ Lenderman)” by Waxahatchee, “Bye Bye” Kim Gordon, “Alone” by The Cure and “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar.
The song “Bikini” by Nick Leon and Erik de Casier took 9th place. Next was a song by Addison Rae titled “Diet Pepsi”.
Nilüfer Yanya and her song “Like I Say (I Runaway)” took 7th place. Next, The Guardian editorial team included the songs “Starburster” and “Favourite” by Fontaines DC. In the 5th position ex aequo were two loud hits of Billie Eilish, i.e. “Birds of a Feather” and “Lunch”. The song “Angel of My Dreams” by Jade came in at number 4.
The best songs of “The Guardian”
The lowest place on the podium was taken by Charli XCX's hit, recorded in cooperation with Billie Eilish. “Guess”. Three other Charli XCX songs were also classified in the same position – “The Girl, So Confusing Version With Lorde”, “Von Dutch” and “360”. In the 2nd position “The Guardian” placed Sabrina Carpenter's hot hit titled “Espresso”.
The British daily chose “Good Luck, Babe!” as the best song of 2024. performed by Chappell Roan.
Two of the songs included in the ranking were also included in Spotify Wrapped 2024 – the musical summary of the year published at the beginning of the week. We're talking about “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter and “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish. In the ranking of the most played songs on Spotify, 25-year-old Carpenter's hit took 1st place, and Billie Eilish's song took 3rd place.
