It is clear that Rafał Trzaskowski, who proposed primary elections in the Civic Coalition, has a prepared campaign. Numerous meetings – including in Bydgoszcz, where his competitor Radosław Sikorski comes from, as well as conversations with farmers to show that the president of the largest city in Poland remembers about the countryside.
November 10 is the first day of the campaign before the primary elections in the Civic Coalition. Rafał Trzaskowski was at the Goose Festival and at the debate with farmers – just in case he was accused of being a big-city candidate. The city and the countryside have common interests, said Trzaskowski.
– People in cities want to eat the highest quality food, and this is also a matter of price – said the mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski.
In the afternoon he held another meeting – in a big city – in Poznań, and the previous evening in Bydgoszcz. In both cities he was welcomed by the presidents.
Bydgoszcz is the region of his competitor – Radosław Sikorski – who, for a change, paid tribute to Marshal Piłsudski in Sulejówek near Warsaw.
– These elections will be about security. About how to keep Putin away from our borders – said Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski.
Who supports Sikorski and who supports Trzaskowski?
Campaigns for both candidates have also been launched online. Sikorski was officially supported by, among others, Deputy Minister of Justice Arkadiusz Myrcha, and a special appeal to Platform politicians was made by Roman Giertych, an MP from the PO list, but not a member of the party.
– Radek is the type of leader, he is the type of leader – Giertych says in the recording posted on the Internet.
Trzaskowski's supporters respond: if it were not for the PiS apparatus of power and extremely hostile government television, the president of Warsaw would already be the president of Poland.
– PiS examined it in 2020, so it is reviewed – comments Katarzyna Lubnauer, deputy minister of national education. – He does very well at election meetings. He has already shown once that he is very close to victory – he adds.
But there is also another calculation regarding the second round of elections.
– Which of these candidates has a chance to convince an electorate that is not his own, not a coalition one, not a platform? In my opinion, it is Radosław Sikorski – says Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska, MP from the Civic Coalition.
Politicians are supposed to speak well of their candidate and avoid criticizing their rival. And thus focus on a generally positive message for the entire formation.
– This is also the strength of the Civic Coalition that we have the opportunity to choose from among such good candidates – points out the Minister of Sport, Sławomir Nitras.
Before the vote, members of the Civic Coalition will learn the results of the polls, but both candidates can openly say that they are fighting for the presidency of the country.
Potential PiS candidates – such as Karol Nawrocki, head of the Institute of National Remembrance – still have to avoid making clear declarations. – The future is full of question marks and forecasts, so it is difficult to answer – says Karol Nawrocki in response to questions about running for office.
None of the potential PiS candidates can step forward until he is nominated by the party president.
The remaining parties of the ruling coalition have not yet announced their candidates.
