The flu has not forgiven, more than a thousand people have died from the beginning of the season

Only in January 2025 more people fell ill with flu than in all of 2024. According to the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Katowice, in 2024 about 24,000 people were sick, and over 36,000 influenza cases were recorded in January in the Śląskie Voivodeship.

The station also reported that from the beginning of 2025 in the Śląskie Voivodeship, due to influenza complications, 25 people from 55 to 89 were died. This is 10 times more than in the same period of 2024.

At the beginning of February, the Chief Sanitary Inspector Paweł Grzesiowski informed about the record number of incidence this season. As he said, as many as 100,000 influenza applications were recorded in the first two weeks of January, and in the second half of January there were another 200,000 applications. Grzesiowski also reported that from the beginning of the season, i.e. from September 2024, more than a thousand deaths caused by influenza complications.

As Marek Waszczewski, spokesman for the Chief Sanitary Inspector told us, on Tuesday at 13 o'clock the Chief Sanitary Inspector plans a conference at which he is to provide current flu data.

Due to the high number of flu cases, the demand for drugs containing Oseltamivir – the active substance used to treat infection with this virus increased. Patients had difficulty realizing the prescription for the drug with this substance. Last week, the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector announced that the problem with Oseltamivir appeared in December and January. In January, the sale of this drug was 335 percent. greater than in the same period of 2024.

Due to the increase in the demand for influenza, the Ministry of Health began to give pharmaceutical wholesalers to the so -called intervention imports of these drugsthat is, bringing them from abroad, in a foreign language packaging.

– 48,000 packaging of the drug for flu has been in pharmacies since last week, and another 180,000 were to come and Friday. Today I will get a report whether this really happened – said Minister of Health Izabela Leszczyna in the radio “three”.

She added that fortunately one of the Polish producers secured about 200,000. drug packaging. “Wholesalers, pharmacies can probably order it from today and this medicine will be in the next few days of their loved ones,” she added.

Leszczyna appealed to that people who are not infected should be vaccinated. “It will give us protection not only this infectious season, but also in the one that will come in autumn,” she said.

As sanitary and epidemiological stations emphasize, a seasonal flu vaccine is the most effective way to protect yourself above all against very dangerous complications for health and life, which can cause influenza virus.
