Cement industry at risk: Polish cement producers appeal for introduction of a quota for this product, so that European Union countries would have to buy cement from their factories. The cement industry may soon lose the conditions for further existence in Poland and Europe. The problem is similar to the situation with grain, when the market was flooded with raw material from Ukraine, which was not produced in accordance with EU standards, which made it cheaper. Trade unionists are afraid of losing their seats as a result work in the industry, and cement plants is at risk of closure.

Costly CO2 emissions: As representatives of the cement industry explained during the November conference, problematic is for them EU climate and export policy. From 2039, it will be impossible to buy carbon emission rights at all coal (CO2), and this, due to the nature of cement production, may cause the industry to disappear altogether. – And since humanity cannot do without cement and concrete, then cement will be imported from places not burdened by climate policy, where CO2 can be emitted in any way – said Krzysztof Kieres, chairman of the Association of Cement Producers. Imports from Ukraine have already increased dramatically.

Ukrainian cement: Therefore, Ukrainian producers do not bear costs related to CO2 emissions, their cement is flooding Poland. From 2019 to 2023, import of cement from Ukraine to Poland increased by over 1,500 percent. The greatest increase occurred after explosion war in Ukraine. Only this year on Polish the market hit twice as much cement from Ukraine than a year earlier.
