The future president of the European Council, Antonio Costa, was robbed in the center of Lisbon.

Former Prime Minister Portugal lost his mobile phone while walking in the Mouraria district of Lisbon's old town, popular with tourists, Portuguese police said Thursday, according to local media.

According to the police report, Costa only realised he had lost his phone more than an hour after it was stolen, while he was in a Lisbon restaurant.

This is the second unpleasant incident in Lisbon for the former Portuguese prime minister since Costa was appointed president of the European Council. A few days ago, the Portuguese socialist paid a ticket for parking his car illegally near the old town.

Leaders European Union countries on Thursday evening they reached an agreement on filling key EU positions. Ursula von der Leyen will remain the president of the European Commission, Antonio Costa will become the head of the European Council, and Kaja Kallas will become the head of EU diplomacy.

In January, it was reported that the Portuguese prosecutor general's office had found Prime Minister Antonio Costa suspected of abuse of power in connection with the corruption scandal. The documents show that the head of the socialist government was aware that the new regulations on urban planning and construction approved by his cabinet in October 2023 would be beneficial to one of the companies. Its owner, according to the investigation, has close relations with the ruling Portuguese Socialist Party (PS).
