When will the rain stop? When will the water recede? Unfortunately, it will take some time. Not only downpours, but also gales. We complained about the heat and drought – but they are gone. Meteorologists say: let's hope we can make it through Tuesday.
What is happening is not over yet. – The Genoese low is tireless, it will throw us another portion of rainfall – announces Arleta Uton-PyzioÅ‚ek, a meteorologist at tvnmeteo.pl.
The weather is still and will be unsettled. Not only in the south of the country. On Saturday, a tornado passed near Radom.
– It was spinning in the air and it landed next to me. (…) I honestly thought I was going to have a heart attack – says Helena, a resident of Wierzchowiny.
There, the element damaged 25 buildings, including five houses. – There was a roar within two minutes. Well, it wiped out – says Mrs. Longina, a resident of Wierzchowiny.
Strong winds are blowing in the flooded areas
– Weather matrix. Such a strong blow at the end of summer. These are local phenomena, very difficult to forecast, but they can be destructive – emphasizes Dr. Joanna Remiszewska-Michalak, an atmospheric physicist from the Climate Council at the UN Global Compact Network Poland.
There were at least five tornadoes on Saturday. They could still occur in the Opole and Silesia regions on Sunday. Additionally, strong winds are blowing in the flooded areas.
– This, in comparison to the soaked soil, can cause even greater problems, for example, broken power lines, broken trees, and this can be an accumulation of dangers – says Grzegorz Walijewski from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management of the National Research Institute.
In the south, despair over what has already happened mixes with fear of what will happen.
“We'll have a repeat of the night”
– In a moment the reservoir will probably release from above and we will have a repeat of what happened at night – says Dariusz Morel, a resident of UstroÅ„.
Just a few days ago we were talking about heat, drought and record low levels of the Vistula River, today we are warning against violent weather and its effects.

In the Kłodzko Valley and in the Opole region, as much rain fell as usual for half a year. Downpours also in Wrocław. The water level in the Odra is already high, although the flood wave has not yet reached there.
– These black, thick clouds that are there are hanging over us, of course, if they pour in some more water, it will be dangerous – says Ms. Jadwiga, a resident of WrocÅ‚aw.
The radar shows that the front will continue to touch the southwest of the country from Sunday evening through the night and throughout Monday.
“Let us remember that the water will flow down”
– We expect that up to 20-30 liters of water will fall per square meter, but along the mountain ridges the daily totals may still reach 50 liters per square meter – says Arleta Unton-PyzioÅ‚ek.
Don't worry – which is also visible on the radar – it will only happen on September 17.
– But this does not mean that the hydrological situation, the dangerous one, is over, remember that the water will flow down – Grzegorz Walijewski points out.
The most difficult situation is still in southwestern Poland, but we should all pay attention to the weather.
