From November 1, the toll road network will be expanded. The changes only apply to vehicles whose permissible total weight exceeds 3.5 tons, i.e. trucks and buses. As GDDKiA emphasizes, there are no plans to introduce toll collection for passenger cars or motorcycles.

Currently, fees are collected for approx. 3.6 thousand. km of national roads of all categories. The toll road network has not been expanded since 2017.

“There are no plans to introduce fees for passenger cars and motorcycles for traveling on road sections managed by GDDKiA,” the Management Board noted in its announcement.

GDDKiA emphasizes that expanding the toll road network is expected to increase the revenues of the National Road Fundwhich finances, among others, road investments. Thanks to this, the expansion of the national road network in Poland will continue. The new regulations will also support a gradual increase in the share of railways in freight transport. This will reduce CO2 emissions from transport.

In Poland, toll collection is carried out by e-TOLL and is carried out using a satellite system. This means that there is no need to install devices for this purpose on the roads. The electronic toll is based on the principles of “user pays” and “polluter pays” – toll rates depend on the weight of vehicles and the exhaust emission standard.
