Trade ban on Sunday

The act gradually introducing the ban on Sunday trading entered into force on March 1, 2018. Since 2020, the trade ban has not been in force only on seven Sundays in the year: last Sundays of January, April, June and August, as well as on Sunday before Easter and on two consecutive Sundays preceding Christmas.

“On Sundays and holidays, trade and trade activities are prohibited in commercial facilities, as well as entrusting to an employee or employed employee (in this person performing work in a commercial institution under a civil law agreement such as a mandate contract) work in trade and performing trade activities. This prohibition does not apply in cases specified in the Act” – explained the Ministry of Family of Labor and Social Policy.

The act limiting trade on Sunday provides for a 32 exclusion catalog. The ban does not include, among others postal activity, if revenues from this activity constitute at least 40 percent. revenues from the sale of a given facility. In addition, it does not apply in confectioneries, ice cream parlors, liquid fuel stations, in florists, in press stores or in cafes.

There is a penalty of from 1000 zlotys to PLN 100,000 for breaking the trade ban, and with persistent violation of the regulations – the penalty of restriction of liberty.
