The Sejm elected members of an investigative committee to investigate the visa scandal. All MPs voted “yes”

The Sejm decided on Thursday evening which MPs would be members of the commission of inquiry into the visa scandal. It will include four Law and Justice politicians, three from the Civic Coalition, one from the Left and Confederation, and two from Third Way.

The commission will consist of 11 members. They were appointed to it PiS MPs: Zbigniew Bogucki, Piotr Kaleta, Daniel Milewski and Andrzej Śliwka, KO MPs: Maria Małgorzata Janyska, Marek Sowa and Michał Szczerba and Maciej Konieczny from the Left, Aleksandra Leo from Poland 2050-TD, Mirosław Adam Orliński from PSL-TD and Krzysztof Mulawa from Confederation.

On Thursday’s vote, 373 MPs voted in favor of electing these deputies to the committee, no one was against and no one abstained. It was required to appoint the composition of the commission absolute majority amounting to 187 votes.

Commission of inquiry into the visa scandal

The Investigative Committee was established to investigate the legality, regularity and purposefulness of actions, as well as the occurrence of abuses, negligence and omissions in the legalization of the stay of foreigners in the territory of the Republic of Poland in the period from November 12, 2019 to November 20, 2023.

Visa scandal

At the end of August this year, the former prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki dismissed Piotr Wawrzyk from the position of Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Officially, according to the ministry, the reason for this decision was “lack of satisfactory cooperation.”

According to Onet, Wawrzyk was thrown out of the government and the PiS lists because he helped his associates create an illegal channel for transporting immigrants from Asia and Africa through Europe to the United States.

Prosecutor’s Office i Central Anticorruption Bureau are currently investigating irregularities in the submission of visa applications.

In this case, Edgar K., an associate of the deputy minister, was detained in April and arrested for a month. According to our information, he was released after a month because he decided to cooperate with CBA agents and the prosecutor.

In September, the media reported that the dismissed deputy minister had been hospitalized.
