The administration of Donald Trump is preparing plans to alleviate the sanctions against Russia, “Reuters said, citing two anonymous sources. The decision would be part of Washington's efforts to resume relations with Moscow and strive to end the war in Ukraine.
The White House was asked by the Department of State and the Finance Department to develop a list of sanctions that can be alleviated so that American officials could raise this topic with the Russians on the coming days, during wider conversations regarding the improvement of diplomatic and economic relations – conversations of the Reuters agency reported.
The offices responsible for sanctions are working on a proposal to abolish restrictions on selected entities and people, including some Russian oligarchs – the sources said, including an American official and another person familiar with the case. It is not clear what Washington could expect from Moscow in return.
