There is the court's consent to issue a European Arrest Warrant for PiS MP Marcin Romanowski – a spokeswoman for the District Court in Warsaw told TVN24. Romanowski has been wanted since last Thursday on an arrest warrant.
On December 9, the District Court for Warsaw Mokotów decided on a three-month detention for PiS MP and former deputy minister of justice Marcin Romanowski. The MP did not appear at the court hearing. On December 12, the prosecutor in charge of the investigation issued an arrest warrant for an MP suspected in the investigation into the Justice Fund.
European Arrest Warrant for Marcin Romanowski
On Thursday, a spokeswoman for the District Court in Warsaw confirmed to TVN24 that the court had consented to issue a European Arrest Warrant against Romanowski. This information was confirmed on the website of the District Court in Warsaw, where a short message was published, which stated: “On December 19, 2024, the District Court in Warsaw issued a European Arrest Warrant against Marcin Romanowski.”
The National Prosecutor's Office requested an EAW because it has information proving that the PiS MP crossed the border and is staying in one of the European Union countries.
EAW and Interpol red notice
Investigators also asked the national Interpol office to issue a red notice in the case of the former deputy minister of justice. The spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office, prosecutor PrzemysÅ‚aw Nowak, informed that the application to issue the so-called Interpol red notice “located at Interpol headquarters”. – Here it is done without our participation, so we are not informed about any date. We are simply informed about Interpol's decision, and we do not have such information yet. Experience is that it should last from several days to several weeks – explained the PK spokesman.
He explained that the EAW and the Interpol red notice enable the Polish services “to go beyond the Polish border.” – At this point, even if we knew that Marcin Romanowski was abroad, the officers of those services would not be able to detain him – he said.
According to information from the prosecutor's office, Marcin Romanowski withdrew from the medical facility where he underwent a planned medical procedure on December 6. Since that day, the MP has had his phones registered with his personal data turned off. His whereabouts are unknown.
