He did not waive his immunity himself – there is a request to waive it. Law and Justice MP Łukasz Mejza is suspected of committing 11 crimes. He defends himself against responsibility and thunders about Stalinist standards. Łukasz Mejza was also involved in a scandal involving forcing families of sick children to undergo unproven therapies.
This is another PiS MP whose prosecutor's office wants to waive his parliamentary immunity. – He could have committed 11 crimes – says Anna Adamiak, spokeswoman for the prosecutor general.
MP Łukasz Mejza reacted nervously and predictably to the motion. – These are Stalinist standards. This isn't even Belarus anymore. Find me a man, I will find a paragraph. Of course, when I see this motion, I will be happy to respond substantively to each of these base, inflated allegations – comments Law and Justice MP Łukasz Mejza.
– Every session of the Sejm, the immunity of a PiS MP is lifted. It's good that the prosecutor general has been replaced, otherwise Mejza's papers would be lying in a garage somewhere – says Marek Sawicki, MP from the Polish People's Party.
The prosecutor's office in Zielona Góra examined the MP's asset declarations and found that he had lied about his assets. – All these allegations refer to concealing or reporting false information regarding the property – says Anna Adamiak.
– This is a very dark character – says Anna Maria Żukowska, an MP from the New Left, about Łukasz Mejza.
The sick children scandal
Łukasz Mejza is the hero of a scandal – he cheated on terminally ill children. He persuaded their parents to pay for experimental treatments that had no basis in reality. The matter was revealed by Wirtualna Polska and Mejza lost his position as deputy minister in Morawiecki's government. However, PiS did not distance itself from the disgraced politician because it needed his vote in the Sejm. Then Jarosław Kaczyński gave him a place on the parliamentary lists.
– I don't know what kind of person he is. You are the ones who have this knowledge. I don't have such knowledge – commented the president of Law and Justice.
Considering that Łukasz Mejza was in the PiS government, the PiS club, on the PiS lists and again in the PiS club – he is an unknown person in PiS. – To be honest, I don't know MP Mejza – comments Law and Justice MP Zbigniew Kuźmiuk. – He is not my friend in the sense that we know each other and we sat at the same table, or even did something different there, drinking – says Law and Justice MP Kazimierz Smoliński.
It's hard to find a person in PiS who would have something good to say about him. – I am neither an opponent nor a supporter. I simply don't know him better – says Michał Wójcik, MP from Sovereign Poland.

Łukasz Mejza cannot therefore expect that PiS will defend him as it did in defense of Woś, Kamiński or Wąsik.
– There are no sacred cows. This applies to both MPs from the Civic Coalition and Law and Justice. Perhaps above all, Law and Justice, says Piotr Kaleta, Law and Justice MP.
PiS wants to distance itself from Mejza as quickly as possible and hush up the matter. – It's better for him to give up his immunity himself – says Waldemar Andzel, an MP from Law and Justice.
Trela: ghost MP
In the previous Sejm, Mejza's vote depended on the government's majority. Now he is a statistician in the largest opposition club. – A ghost MP, he takes money – says Tomasz Trela, MP of the New Left.
– I would rate his activity as zero when it comes to a parliamentarian here in the Sejm – comments Monika Wielichowska, deputy speaker of the Sejm from the Civic Coalition.
These are not malice of political opponents. Just dry facts. Since the beginning of the term, Mejza has spoken once – regarding an event in the parliamentary hotel, about which residents complained. The MP explained that he was restoring traditions “involving joint, choral singing of Polish patriotic songs, interspersed with a slightly more humorous and convivial repertoire.”
This is the only activity of the PiS MP for a year. One speech in the form of a statement about a drunken party. No interpellation, no activity.
The request to waive immunity will be dealt with by the Rules, Deputies' Affairs and Immunities Committee.
