Not so long ago, the presence of ticks in January or February in Poland was something unusual. Currently, warm winters have caused the arachnids to feed all the time, and our quadrupeds bring them to their homes. “One sunny and warm (for January) day was enough for ticks to wake up – if they fell asleep at all. Take care of yourself and your four -legged little ones,” the Grotniki Forest District wrote in social media. It also published a photo of the arachnid.

We ask the forest inspectorate of the Grotniki Forest District about post. – I confirm at these temperatures that are, you can “catch” a tick – says Wojciech Cabaj. He added that the frequency of “their attack” is much lower than, for example, in spring or summer. – A week ago it was 12 degrees, they started their activity, someone recently told me that he had bought a Christmas tree before Christmas, it was two ticks after him – said Cabaj. The words of the forest inspectorate are confirmed by the veterinarian who runs the office in Zgierz. – There is no day that the owner of the quadruped does not come to us and asked to pull out a tick. Special preparations or collars against these arachnids are also bought. During the holiday season we also had people who came to us because they brought home ticks with Christmas trees – admits the doctor.

In a nearby forest we meet several people who came out with their pets for a walk. They also confirm that ticks are active all the time. – I have already removed the tick from my dog ​​two or three times, now he has a special collar, but I know they are. There was only such a short break as the snow fell in January, then they were gone – a woman walking in the woods with a four -legged forest. – I haven't seen it yet, but my friends who live near Stryków said that their cats who leave the house regularly bring ticks. There is no frost, a decent winter and they are probably why they are all the time – added another woman.

A specialist from the University of Lodz, tells us that ticks function in winter, but rarely and usually feed on the blood of small rodents. When snow or sulphurous frost comes, this phenomenon is not there. – First of all, it is a matter of temperature, we have virtually normal winter – there is no snow, there is no low temperatures. When there is no frost, and the temperature is, which is – you can say such early spring – it does not bother them at all, they can function normally – said Dr. Radomir Jaskuła from the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz. Ticks can – not all – transmit dangerous diseases for man – boleriat and tick -borne meningitis. Animals can get so -called babesiosis. – In this case, if we know that he got into our skin and we have, although a bit of uncertainty whether he is a carrier of boleriosis, it is worth going to the doctor to pull him out and give him to the examination. In the case of any erythema in a place where this tick was stuck, you must definitely contact a doctor and he will prescribe a very strong antibiotic that allows you to stop the possible development of boleriosis. Untreated boleriosis can have deplorable effects – he said. He also suggested that there should be brighter clothes to the forest, because then you can see a tick walking over us better. He also remedied that after returning from the forest or meadow, watch carefully if these arachnids do not walk around our body somewhere.
