Iga Świątek (2nd WTA) in the match against Coco Gauff (3rd WTA) did not achieve what she achieved on Sunday in the match with Barbora Krejcikova (13th WTA). Then the Pole lost the first set, but won the whole match. In turn, Świątek lost to the American 3:6, 4:6 in the second match of the group stage of the WTA Finals tournament. This is the Polish woman's second defeat against Gauff in their thirteenth direct match.

Experts commented on Iga Świątek's loss to Coco Gauff

“Iga Świątek lost to Coco Gauff 3:6, 4:6. There wasn't even a forehand. The deficiencies in match practice are visible. She played with a tennis player who had been outplayed in recent weeks and that's why the result was no surprise. In both groups of the WTA Finals, tennis players whose form was at the top was not a question mark,” said Rafał Smoliński.

“47 unforced errors by Iga Świątek with only 15 winners – it's hard to believe. It's impossible to win against the third racket in the world this way. An immediate reaction is needed on Thursday!” – wrote Piotr Bernaciak from “Przegląd Sportowy” Onet.

“Coco Gauff with her second victory over Iga (balance 11-2 for the Pole). Unfortunately, Świątek is still missing out on the tour. A lot of dirty plays, a lot of throw-outs and simple mistakes. The American is much better today. Iga has to fight with Pegula to advance to the semi-finals” – wrote Mateusz Ligęza from Radio Zet.

“Iga Świątek's poor match, lots of mistakes in important moments. The lack of match rhythm in fast conditions was very visible. Coco Gauff didn't play a great match, but she was much more solid,” said Michał Chojecki.

“Despite everything, I am a bit surprised. 6:3, 6:4 for Coco Gauff – not even the victory of the American, but rather the circumstances… Coco surprised with a much better forehand, and Iga surprised with a very large number of unforced errors. On Thursday we have to play to advance to the semi-finals ” – emphasized Adam Romer.

In the last match of the WTA Finals group stage in Riyadh, Iga Świątek will face Jessica Pegula (6th WTA). The American lost to Coco Gauff and Barbora Krejcikova in two sets. However, she remembers well the last match against Świątek, which she won 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the US Open. The match between Świątek and Pegula will be played on Thursday, November 6.
