Samsung has been experimenting with flexible for years display. First, smartphones were folded, then rolled TVs, and now it's time for screens that can form in three -dimensional shapes themselves. What's in new Stretchable MicroLED technology?

A screen that changes shapes

The prototype presented, among others, at the CES 2025 fair in Las Vegas can change from a flat surface into a convex dome. Samsung demonstrated it on a small, six -inch display – more or less the size of the smartphone screen. Although this is currently experimental technology, its huge potential is already visible.

Special MicroLED LEDs are responsible for smooth changes in shape. Unlike rigid elements known from traditional screens, these can be stretched without the risk of damage. Samsung also developed a flexible ground that maintains electrical conductivity even during deformation. Thanks to this The entire display can stretch its surface up to 25% compared to its initial surface, which means that it can be “extended” or “stretched” in a certain direction.

From maps to virtual aquariums

During the presentation, Samsung showed several examples of using new technology. The display was transformed into three -dimensional mapę Jeju, demonstrating the possibility of creating interactive geographical visualizations. In another demonstration, the screen “revived” the model of the famous Las Vegas Sphere – a giant ball covered with display, which became the symbol of the city. Below you can see the video presenting this technology.

Experts predict that the first recipients of this technology will be the creators of advertising and artistic exhibitions. Store site where the products literally “go out” towards passers -by or museum, where exhibits come to their fingertips. Interesting applications may also appear in medicine – Flexible screens could display three -dimensional diagnostic images, adapting to the patient's body shape.

When will we see new technology in stores?

For now, it is difficult to talk about mass production. The MicroLED technology itself is incredibly expensive. Adding stretching and forming can only increase the price. Samsung also does not reveal when he could show larger versions of flexible screens. One thing is certain – there is still room for revolutionary ideas in the field of displays.
