Santa Claus knocks on the door. It has already appeared in social welfare homes here and there. The residents of the nursing homes were already writing letters to him in September, so he had plenty of time to bring a duvet, deodorant or a jacket. The authors of 150 letters are still waiting to fulfill their dreams.
They had been looking for Santa Claus since September, because that was when they sent him letters with Christmas dreams. – Waiting from the very morning, some were waiting here right after gymnastics and some were sitting here all the time, waiting all the time – says Mrs. Marta Rosiak, a physiotherapist.
They waited because for many Santa Claus is the only person who will definitely visit them once a year. And this time he did not disappoint, because Mikołaj knows the stories told by the DPS residents well. Also the most moving ones.
– My daughter died suddenly from leukemia, and my second daughter abandoned me. I was walking on the street, sleeping on a bench – confesses Mrs. Bożena. – It was a card and it said that when I get older, I will go to such a house so as not to be a burden to the family. And this is where I ended up – says Mrs. Anna.
The packages contained exactly what was in the letters, even if it seemed an impossible dream. Mrs. Urszula received a duvet, deodorants and coffee, and Mrs. Barbara – a winter jacket. Mrs. Anna was happy with the watch, and Mr. Marcin – with the sports shoes.
Anyone can help Santa Claus
Santa Claus will definitely visit every other nursing home in Łódź. He already has gifts for almost two thousand people. The authors of 150 letters are still waiting to fulfill their dreams. Mrs. Sylwia asks for a colorful blouse and sweatpants, Mrs. Bożena – for pajamas and washing liquid, Mr. January – for slippers and a calendar, one to tear off, and Mr. Sylwester – for a puzzle and a bauble, one for the table.
– Our residents cannot go out on their own, so if they receive such small things, they are very happy because they are tailored to their taste and needs – says Sister Joanna Rekas from the Social Welfare Home of the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Łódź.
The dreams from one letter can come true for one or a dozen people. You can contribute to the packages. You can help online – on the “Letter to Santa from DPS” website. Every gesture counts here.
– This letter that I wrote, I wrote, it turns out that it is effective and someone will come and hug me and bring me this gift, but this is the moment dedicated to this person who needs this closeness – emphasizes Witold Michalak from the Support Foundation Residents of Social Welfare Homes, president of the Letter to Mikołaj Foundation from DPS.
There are still 11 days left to help Santa Claus from DPS.
