“They are trying to be around us and imitate those who have always celebrated independence in Warsaw”

A few months before the presidential elections, the leader of the largest right-wing party had to appear at the Independence March, thinking about the victory of his candidate, even though he had boycotted the Independence March for the last six years.

– However, many of our outstanding personalities went to the march. We went to Krakow, but today we are here – says Ryszard Terlecki, MP from Law and Justice.

Not in the front row, but rather in the back, PiS politicians – perhaps including the party's presidential candidate – sought votes from right-wing and far-right elections.

For Konfederacja, a party to the right of PiS, what Kaczyński and his party are doing is political cynicism. Even before the march, some nationalists publicly, on the Internet, suggested Kaczyński stay at home. – They tried to discourage us among right-wing, conservative voters. They failed to do so, so today they are trying to be around us and imitate those who have always celebrated independence in Warsaw – comments Krzysztof Mulawa, Confederation MP.

The Independence March in Warsaw is the one time a year when right-wing groups – often publicly calling for Polexit and turning away from the West – can count.

– When we were met by a police truncheon and tear gas in the streets, Jarosław Kaczyński cowardly fled to Krakow – says Witold Tumanowicz, an MP from the Confederation. – Every patriot should be here. This is not a political march. Only this is the march of everyone who shares certain values ​​- says Michał Wójcik, an MP from Law and Justice.

This year, according to the capital city hall, 90,000 people passed through the city. The police detained over 60 people for possession of drugs and dangerous items.

The return of PiS politicians to the march, which until now was dominated by Confederation politicians, is only proof that the presidential campaign and the fight for the government of souls on the right have begun.
