The authorities of Karpacz and the skiers and snowboarders associated there in clubs were waiting for this decision. They hoped that a route would be erected there with a FIS approval. This would allow the Polish Championships and international competitions to organize there. It was missing about one hundred meters. The consent of the Ministry of the Climate and the Environment, yes, allows the expansion of the existing slope, but there is no happiness. Athletes and trainers are a bit disappointed – the authorities of the Karkonosze National Park blame the authorities. However, they admit that this is a step to improving training conditions.

It is time for the Karpacz authorities for a slightly deeper breath after exhausting patience training. It lasted 10 years. So much was waited for the Ministry of the Climate and the Environment to finally give the green light to enlarge the euro ski -ski slope.

– It is narrow and with more people on the slope it gets crowded and not very safe. For safety and comfort of driving, this would definitely be the indicated elongation. The longer, the better – indicates Mr. Marcin, skier.

The route is to be extended from 700 meters to a kilometer, and expanded almost twice. – Today this slope is quite narrow. Expanding and lengthening it will cause that ski clubs will be able to train regardless of amateurs – says RadosÅ‚aw JÄ™cek, mayor of Karpacz.

So far, there are no conditions for optimal training

Because now for skiers training in clubs and in the school of sports championship conditions for optimal training are not. To polish the form, they go where specially separate routes for professionals. Often to the Czech Republic and Austria.

– I am not a taxi driver as a trainer. To conduct such a training, I have to go with players one and a half hours to the Czech side to conduct training safely – comments Tomasz Stanek from KS Skivegas Stanek Race Academy, a former councilor of Karpacz.

– These are, firstly, very high costs for parents, and secondly logistics. This affects the fatigue of the players, the fatigue of children and the quality of the training itself – indicates MichaÅ‚ OkniaÅ„ski, Alpine skiing coach, Eurosport commentator.

Karpacz authorities a decade ago wanted to change it. The dream was a route with the approval of the International Ski and Snowboard FIS FIS FIS. This would not only improve the comfort of training, but also gave a chance to organize the Polish championships or international competitions.

– Together with the mayor, we called the Technical Delegate, Mr. Krzysztof Horecki, who is the only Pole who grants ski lights. We met in the field, we walked on this ski route, we marked where the upper and lower state of the lift must be to get this approval – says Tomasz Stanek.

“We have equipment from 20-30 years ago”

A number of other steps were taken, including an environmental inventory. Years passed, other ski municipalities went forward. Karpacz was still waiting. – Szczyrk, Zakopane. We stayed in Karpacz in the back. We have infrastructure, equipment from 20-30 years ago – notes MichaÅ‚ OkniaÅ„ski.

The opinion of the Karkonosze National Park, which manages these lands, was necessary, but from there it was not optimistic about the municipality. On the way to a ski-approval of FIS, a dwarfish belt was covered by international protection.

– In order for them to be destroyed, they would have to obtain the consent of not only the minister of climate and the environment, but also the European Commission – indicates Andrzej Raj, director of the Karkonosze National Park.

The hopes of Karpacz authorities and nearby ski clubs for the route that meets world standards has therefore been cooled. The ambitious plan had to be verified so as not to stay with anything.

– We knew that in this respect, which we would like it, it could not be done. (…) We have made all kinds of efforts to use this slope maximally both in terms of width and length – says RadosÅ‚aw JÄ™cek.

This is the maximum for FIS approval is not enough. The route will be too short by about 100 meters. – The blockade of sport in the Karkonosze, unfortunately, is the management of the Karkonosze National Park – comments Tomasz Stanek.

– This is a dwarf, these are broken trees, it is really a place that is close to the lift, it is not very attractive, there is no tourist paths there, there is quite a harsh atmosphere. This really does not change the whole Karkonosze National Park – says MichaÅ‚ OkniaÅ„ski.

Complex for PLN 30 million

In the sports environment of Karpacz you can feel disappointment. Although it is a step in the right direction, the decade of efforts did not result in full success.

– Not a single athlete will come to us to SMS, because he will choose Zakopane or Szczyrk, where they have permanently closed training routes – says Tomasz Stanek.

On the one hand, grievances and regret. On the other – an attempt to tone these emotions.

– We can't make a hucpa from this success that a few men say that they would like to leave Åšnieżka. No. For now, let's do what 10 years ago mayor of Karpacz appeared – says Jerzy Pokoju, chairman of the Lower Silesian regional council.

Now a correction of the local spatial development plan is needed. – I think that even an extraordinary session will cause that the plan will come into force within two weeks – says RadosÅ‚aw JÄ™cek.

This will open the investor the way to expand the complex. This is to cost over PLN 30 million. – The investor must apply to the Mayor of the City of Karpacz for an environmental decision, whose conditions are agreed by the Regional Director of Environmental Protection. (…) We have already undergone this type of procedure here several times and we have experience to go through it efficiently – says Andrzej Raj.

If this is the case, the first skiers will eat the new route during the winter holidays in 2027.
