They want to express images with the help. A unique action of composers and musicians

It is hard to imagine communing with images without the possibility of seeing them, but maybe it's just a matter of the limits of our imagination. Bobby Golder is a visually impaired musician and he came up with the idea to make a little more light on works of art with sounds.

Together with the musician, sound engineers from the Dolby studio took part in this extraordinary project. From the beginning, it was created for blind and visually impaired people, and was supposed to not only translate the masterpieces of painting into the language of the sound, but to introduce recipients even more deeply into the world of images.

The creators of this project decided to use the latest achievements of the so -called immersion, or spatial sound. As they say, it was about using technical solutions that were not a dozen or so years ago.

– There are so many things that you need to take into account when you work with a work of art and try to create parallels between music and sound. We tried to focus not only on the subject of what is visible on canvas, but also on the context in which the painter worked. Sometimes we also tried to reflect the characteristics of his character and some of his ideas, and bring out these most important emotions from it. It was also the first time I worked with a team of sound designers, so we had a really creative field for cooperation – says Bobby Goulder, musician and co -author of “Sound of a Masterpiece”.

Can the image, for example, the famous “scream” of Edward Munch be heard? These are probably more philosophical issues, i.e. those that are difficult to find a clear answer. What we know for sure is that the techniques of translating visual arts for people with a vision deficit have been used for some time.

– Describing and sharing images or sculptures to people with sight disabilities, we create audio description, i.e. verbal descriptions that we can, for example, diversify, we can add soundtracks to them, we can create some musical compositions that, for example, will reflect the first impression, i.e. what we see, looking at the picture at first and we have some of our first impressions. We also use several different techniques that allow ourselves to imagine better and get to know this work of art, for example, for example, touch materials such as miniatures, replicas, but sometimes typhlographics that are such touch images – explains Monika Matusiak -Condefer from the Multigny Foundation.

Goulder has been suffering from Stargardt's spot from birth. It is a hereditary retinal disease of the eye, which consists in the gradual disappearance of photojceptors, or de facto vision loss. The musician, however, decided not to give in to the disease. He graduated from music studies and is currently a pianist, composer and music director. His work aims to overcome the barriers between painting and people with sight dysfunction, as well as making art more engaging for the whole society.

– Art is a multi -layered experience, and we offer a completely new way of experiencing art through the immersion power of music. And when people experience it and find their own understanding of what it means, I think it will fuel their interest and curiosity – believes Robin Spinks from the Royal National Institute of Blind People.
