The suspension of the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine from Wednesday is one of the greatest failures of Russia, which uses this raw material as an energy weapon, wrote the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, on Wednesday on the X website. He also referred to the faster elimination of the effects of Europe's dependence on Russia and the “hysteria of some European politicians.”
Ukraine announced on Wednesday that it had suspended the transit of Russian gas for national security reasons. Russian concern Gazprom announced on the same day that it was suspending gas exports to Europe via Ukraine from 8 Moscow time (6 Polish time), when the deadline for the agreement on the transit of this raw material expired.

Faster elimination of the effects of Europe's dependence on Russia
Zelensky noted in the post that 25 years ago when Vladimir Putin took over the duties of president from Boris Yeltsin, the annual gas transit through Ukraine to Europe amounted to over 130 billion cubic meters. “Today it is zero,” emphasized the President of Ukraine.
He also called on European countries to jointly “support Moldova during the energy transition” and expressed hope for greater supplies of American gas to Europe. “We must overcome the hysteria of some European politicians who prefer mafia deals with Moscow over a transparent energy policy,” he added.
In Zelensky's opinion, a larger amount of gas available on the market from “Europe's true partners” will help eliminate the last effects of Europe's dependence on Russia more quickly.
