Firefighters fought a fire of vacancy at Grudziadzka Street in Toruń. The building that burned down was to be demolished soon. Soviet troops were stationed in the complex years ago.

The duty officer of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service from Toruń confirmed that on Saturday in the afternoon they received a report about a fire fire at Grudziądzka Street. – Fire appeared in post -military, uninhabited buildings. In December last year, the president of Toruń Paweł Gulewski presented a new concept of developing this area. “There are planned to transform storage, components and municipal areas into a multifunctional area with a housing function” – informed the City Hall.

The Jar II housing estate is to be built in the place where the fire broke out. At the end of January, contracts with entrepreneurs who operated in these buildings were terminated. “Soon demolition works of existing buildings will begin, which should be completed at the turn of February and March,” said the office in January.

Real estate, referred to as Grudziadz 163, were the barracks complex of the Soviet army. After the evacuation of the unit in 1991, they were taken over by the city of Toruń.
