On Friday, April 18 in Venice, the system of registration of visits to the city will be effective. For 54 selected days, by the end of July, from people who will not stop in the city for accommodation, the authorities will charge an entry fee. From 5 to 10 euros.
This is the second year of the special experiment in the world, introduced by the city authorities in response to the phenomenon of so -called excessive tourism.
The system will apply every day from Holy Friday to May 4, and then every Friday, Saturday and Sunday to July 27. In total for 54 days during the greatest influx of tourists at the peak of the season. Last year there were 29.
The requirement for registering and charging fees applies to people over 14 years of age, coming to the historic center of Venice from 8.30 to 16.
Paid admission to Venice
The city authorities have launched a website https://cda.ve.it/it/, where you can book arrival or pay a fee. It is 5 euros if the reservation is made at least four days before arrival. In the case of later registration, the cost increases to 10 euros.
Each tourist must register on the indicated days and obtain the QR code, confirming the payment of or exemption from it. Inspections will be carried out in the city.
The penalty for the lack of a fee is between 50 and 300 euros.

People who book accommodation in Venice do not have to pay for admission, because in hotels they pay a tourist tax in the amount of several euros per night.
“Balance is needed”
This system aims to regulate the influx of tourists and manage their arrival, which is to help reconcile the needs of visitors and city residents. “Balance is needed,” said the head of the Tourism Department of the City of Simone Venturini.
As he said, thanks to these principles it will be known in advance how many tourists will arrive on a given day over Canal Grande, which in turn will allow all services to be properly prepared for it.
– Secondly, the point is to discourage so -called one -day tourism, that is, arrival only for a few hours – he added.
Venturini emphasized that this system arouses great interest abroad, and delegations of other cities regularly come to Venice to read its functioning. – Foreign tourists understand our steps and are happy to pay – said the representative of the city authorities.
