“We are not attacking our own people in the first round, we all support (unambiguously!) whoever advances to the second round. Winning while maintaining unity is our goal,” wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk about the coalition's “common strategy for the October 15 presidential elections.”

A few days earlier, Tusk announced that the Civic Coalition's candidate for president would be announced on December 7 in Silesia. He also repeated that he would not be running for president.

Kosiniak-Kamysz's proposal

Earlier on Saturday Władysław Kosiniak-Kamyszduring the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Polish People's Party in Tarnów, announced that he was in favor of selecting one coalition candidate for president. As he said, “there will be no security for the Polish state until we elect a president who will be neither right-wing nor left-wing, but will be communal.”

Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that “joint action of coalition parties” is needed. – This is what I would like to ask for, and I would also like to invite our partners from the government coalition – from the Civic Platform, from the Civic Coalition, from Poland 2050, from the Left, so that we jointly select a candidate for president today – said the president PSL. He assured that he was in favor of “more intensive dialogue” within the coalition in order to reach an agreement.

Who will be KO's candidate for president?

The Civic Coalition has not yet officially named a presidential candidate for next year's elections. The mayor of Warsaw, deputy head of PO, is mentioned as the most likely candidate Rafał Trzaskowski. Trzaskowski said in “Fakty po Faktach” that the candidate would be selected by the party's board. – Later, of course, there will be a National Council, a convention that will confirm this choice. However, at the moment there is no decision whether we will hold primary elections or not, Trzaskowski said.

In turn, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, who is also often mentioned as KO's candidate for presidentsaid in “Kropka nad i” that “Poland needs a president who will ensure the country's security and will be able to distinguish between state and party interests.” When asked if he would like to run as a candidate, he replied that “the mother party will decide.”

In an interview with “Gazeta Wyborcza”, Donald Tusk was asked about the name of the KO candidate for president, he replied that it would be “the person who spoke at our last convention.” The speakers included Donald Tusk himself, the mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski, and the minister of education Barbara NowackaMinister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, Deputy Minister of Family Aleksandra Gajewska and Minister for the European Union Adam Szłapka.
