On Thursday, August 1, Polish fans could have high hopes for successful performances at the Olympic Games in Paris. Unfortunately, Artur Brzozowski and Katarzyna ZdziebĹ‚o did not win medals in the 20-kilometer walk. Tomasz Bartnik in final shooting (free rifle – three bases) took only seventh place. What's more, our great Olympic hope – Iga ĹšwiÄ…tek, who lost semi-final in the women's singles match against Chinese Qinwen Zheng (7th WTA) and will fight only for the bronze medal.

On Thursday at 5 p.m. the TVP Sport broadcast of the Olympic Games was interrupted for a minute. First, on one half of the screen you could see a boxing match for a moment, and on the other half a plane flying (a military transport plane C-130 Hercules and four F-16 JastrzÄ…b planes were flying over Warsaw – this is how soldiers of the Polish Air Force paid tribute to the Warsaw Uprising). Then, for a minute, viewers could see ceremonies commemorating the victims of the Warsaw Uprising from various important places in the capital of Poland. Commentators TVP Sport said nothing for 60 seconds. You could hear the sirens that went off at 5 p.m.
Celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising have been underway in the Polish capital since Tuesday and will end on Sunday.
The Warsaw Uprising lasted from August 1 to October 3, 1944. It is one of the most important events in the history of Poland and the most decisive for the fate of Poles in the 20th century. The Warsaw Uprising was the largest armed action of the underground in German-occupied Europe.
