Polish diaspora in the USA

On Tuesday, the influential website Politico published the article “Kamala Harris warns Americans of Polish descent not to vote for Donald Trump. Many will vote.”

In 2016, most Poles voted for Trump, but four years later they turned away from him in favor of Biden. This variability, according to the Politico website, calls into question the sense of using the concept of the American Polish community as a group with specific views or beliefs.

“Once cohesive Polish communities are now scattered, and generational integration increasingly weakens the sense of any unified point of view among the American Polish community,” writes Politico.

How the Polish community will ultimately vote is therefore not certain. Politico emphasizes that the political views of American Poles also change with the age of voters. 78-year-old Jacek Kuligowski from the Polish American Citizens Club in Dupont assured that he would vote for a Democrat, motivated by the party's position towards Russia's invasion in Ukraine. – For me, Putin is Joseph Stalin's bastard – he said.

Another Politico interlocutor, Magdalena, who is an example of someone from the younger generation, said that Harris's warnings about Poland “don't concern her.” – I don't live there anymore. I'm interested in what's here. And people here can't afford groceries, she said. She will vote for Trump because, as she said, “we should help Ukraine, but it affects our economy and our citizens.”
