The mother of a three-year-old boy whose body was found in a freezer by investigators has confessed to the murder two years after the macabre discovery, US media report.

On June 23, 2022, police found the body of a three-year-old boy in a bag hidden in a basement freezer in Detroit. It had been hidden there three months earlier. At the time, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office reported the arrest of the child's mother, Azuradee France. The 33-year-old was charged with murder, child abuse, torture, and concealing a death. The woman initially pleaded not guilty. The breakthrough in this case came only in recent days – as reported by the Detroit News, France pleaded guilty last Friday.

The 33-year-old allegedly told police that she kicked her son in the stomach when he wouldn't eat. When she checked on the child the next day, he was unresponsive, the Detroit newspaper reported. The mother claims that she “didn't call 911 out of fear that the authorities would take away her other children.” France also admitted that she had been abusing the blind 3-year-old for several months before his death.

Court documents show that France, who had five children between them, abused them even before France was born. After he was born, the other children were placed in foster care because of the mother's physical abuse and poor mental health, the Detroit News reported. “The alleged facts in this case have shocked even the most experienced (investigators),” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement after France was arrested in 2022.
