A tornado destroyed a century-old church in Mississippi. There were two people in the building when the fire struck and they hid in the bathroom. Although the church was destroyed, people were not seriously injured.
A series of storms hit the southeastern United States over the weekend storms with tornadoes. In a day and a half, there were 38 tornadoes. Four people died.
“Honestly, it was something crazy.”
One of the tornadoes devastated the town of Meadville, Mississippi. In the path of the tornado was the O'Zion Baptist Church, founded in 1917. There were two people in the building when the disaster struck, and they hid at the last moment in the bathroom in the sacristy. The building was devastated, but fortunately nothing happened to the people staying there.
“If you look from above, it's the only place with any floor left,” Pastor Lance Moak told local media. – There is no debris where they were.
The church wasn't the only spot in Meadville that was destroyed by the tornado. On Monday, residents removed the effects of the element, cleaned up broken tree branches and looked for items blown away by the wind.
– The trees were uprooted – said one of the residents of the town. – Honestly, it was crazy.
In the coming weeks and months, the community of believers from the destroyed church will meet elsewhere to plan its reconstruction.
