During the inspection, police officers and the Road Transport Inspectorate revealed that the 27-year-old driver, during the statutory break he must take, decided to drive away from the workplace's parking lot to a gas station by attaching a magnet to the gearbox pulser. The incident took place in Wałbrzych, where the driver came from Gdańsk. Now the man will be charged with committing a crime, and the company must take into account the loss of its license.
On Monday, October 14, before 11:00 a.m. at Uczniowska Street in Wałbrzych, uniformed officers inspected a truck. During it, it turned out that the tachograph in the tractor-trailer recorded rest on the driver's card while the vehicle was in motion. Additionally, the operation of the odometer was disrupted, resulting in the failure to count kilometers while the vehicle was moving.
“During the proceedings, the 27-year-old admitted that he himself manipulated the operation of the tachograph by using a magnet. During the road test, the suspect demonstrated how he deactivated the correct operation of the measuring devices,” the Wałbrzych police say.
According to the officers, after removing the magnet, the device was activated, which resulted in the restoration of speed, distance traveled and driver activity to recording. The magnet was secured by the police for the case.
A 27-year-old resident of Tczew will now answer to court for interfering with the operation of the tachograph and disturbing the operation of the odometer. This crime can result in imprisonment for 5 years.
High fine for breaking the regulations
In addition, the man was fined by inspectors from the Road Transport Inspectorate for breaking the regulations. In this case, the financial penalty may amount to PLN 10,000. The company must also take into account the loss of its road transport license.
