Jacob Indian rhino is also dead, also called Kuba. The Warsaw zoo decided to sleep an animal due to its extensive inflammation and related suffering. – He loved Indian and classic music, mud baths, care treatments and clay lubrication – the zoo said.
The capital's zoo reported that for several years carers had been fighting an unequal fight against the inflammatory process, which appeared after the injury of the corner of Jacob. The corners of Indian rhinos are very delicate and often there are cracks and even fractures, which can lead to long -healing wounds. This was also the case with Jacob.
The condition has worsened
“Unfortunately, in addition to this last year, Jacob felt very bad, and the studies showed a high name of the West Nile virus. He managed to save him, but since then he did not return to full health,” the zoo wrote.
Reported that in recent weeks there has been a deteriorating inflammation of the corner. The wound began to expand and the surrounding tissues, including bones, were occupied.

“Jacob, despite intensive treatment, began to show symptoms of pain and discomfort. The comfort of Jacob's life (…) deteriorated, and the chance that he would recover decreased to zero. After consulting the whole team, having regard to the well -being of our rhino, we took a difficult, but the only one possible decision, “explained the capital's zoo.
“He loved Indian and classic music”
Carers mention that Jacob was a great rhino and he had fantastic contact with them.
“He loved Indian and classic music, mud baths, care treatments and clay lubrication. He was a sustainable and full character of charges,” they added.
He was born on February 29, 2004 in Tierpark Berlin. He came to the Warsaw zoo in 2006. Two years later he was joined by a partner – Shikari. The couple had three sons.

The corner is not used to defend
The Indian rhino, also called armored, is the largest of the three Asian ghost species. The male can weigh up to three tons. It has one corner that grows up to 25 centimeters. In the natural environment, the largest was 57.2 centimeters. The thick skin of the animal creates characteristic folds resembling armor discs. It lives in wetland areas of Nepal and north-eastern India.
Leads a lonely lifestyle. Prefers lowland areas near water. He spends a lot of time in mud hole. He can swim well. The sense of smell and hearing is best developed. His eyes are very weak – rhinos are short -sighted. He reacts to the threat with escape. When he has to defend himself (as during the fighting between males), he uses as a weapon of pointed lower fangs, not the corner.

In the 16th century it went to Europe
In 1513, the first Indian rhino came to Europe as a gift for the Portuguese king and aroused a sensation. Based on the artist's anonymous sketch and the accounts of witnesses, he was immortalized on the woodcut from 1515 by the German painter Albrecht Dürer.
The Indian rhino is exposed to extinction. About three thousand live.
In southern Asia countries, there is a conviction that everything that comes from a rhinoceros has healing properties, especially his corner and blood.
