Over the weekend, an SUV driver cut down a pedestrian crossing light on the Szczecin Coast, hit two people, and fled. City guards are providing assistance to the injured, and have provided details.
Just after midnight from September 13 to 14 Municipal guards from the 7th Local Division, driving along the Szczecin Coast, noticed a group of people near the pedestrian crossing at Okrzei Street.
Around, as described by the officers, there were fragments of traffic lights, plastic and sheet metal lying around. Cars at the intersection stopped, someone shouted that there had been an accident and there were injured people. However, there were no vehicles at the scene that had participated in the incident. The guards ran towards the group of people.
There they found a woman of about 25 years old lying on the road and a dazed man of about 30 years old sitting on the curb.
“He hit a traffic light pole and then pedestrians”
– The injured person was treated by a woman who said she was a rescuer. We brought dressings from our first aid kit and notified other services about the need to intervene – reports Artur Dmitruk, who, together with Senior Inspector Mariusz Bednarczyk, acted at the scene of the accident.
– The injured woman tried to get up at all costs. It was necessary to prevent her from doing so, because it is not known what injuries she sustained during the accident. We applied a dressing to the heavily bleeding head wound. Her partner complained of pain in his neck, neck and leg. We monitored the condition of both until the ambulance arrived. The injured were transported to the hospital on Szaserów Street by ambulance – reported the municipal guards.
While waiting for the police to arrive, the guards identified four witnesses to the incident. They also managed to secure a recording of the accident, recorded by one of the witnesses.
“The information obtained indicated that the injured parties were crossing a pedestrian crossing with a green light when a white SUV hit a traffic light pole at high speed and then pedestrians. The perpetrator got out of the car, assessed the damage, then got back into the SUV and, destroying the second traffic light, drove away from the scene,” the officers described.
The guards handed over all the information, witnesses' data and a film showing the perpetrator to the police. The fire department helped secure the scene of the incident while it was being cleaned up. As we have established at the Metropolitan Police Headquarters, the perpetrator of the accident has not yet been arrested, but officers have identified him.
