In 2024, a technical failure in the first and second metro lines, i.e. almost twice a month, took place 22 times. 64 times a year, some station could not be used.
How often do difficulties occur during the year on the first line of the subway? The topic was undertaken in the interpellation by Piotr Wertenstein-Żiławski, a Warsaw councilor from the Civic Coalition Club. The councilor was interested in how many times a year there were technical failures of the M1 line resulting in trains. And also: how many times the first line station has been excluded from the passenger traffic and what were the causes. He also asked how many times in 2024 replacement communication was launched along the M1 line.
Stopped trains, closed stations
The response to the councilor's interpellation shows that 14 times the metro line trains were stopped or their traffic organization was changed. The reason was technical failures. In four cases, they concerned the faults of the pneumatic system, and in the remaining 10 the error lay on the infrastructure side and was caused by the defect of motion control devices.
In 2024 there were 44 exclusions of individual metro stations. It follows that on average more than three times a month, some of them were temporarily closed. “These exclusions were partly associated with the need to shorten or divide the lines into sections, and partly with trains through a given station without stopping,” said Maciej Fijałkowski, secretary of Warsaw, in response to the interpellation of Piotr Wertenstein -Żiławski.
In the case of such problems, replacement communication went to the streets 14 times. It was also launched once when a rescue operation was carried out on the first line of the subway – an unconscious passenger was on the train.
Less failure on the second metro line
We addressed similar questions to the Warsaw Met spokeswoman, but we asked about the second line. There were fewer problems on m2.
As Anna Bartoń told us, in 2024 the movement of M2 in connection with failures was detained eight times. Five times the fault concerned the devices of the movement control system, once there was a short circuit in the low voltage main switchgear. Once the fault was the braking system lock, once there is no traction power supply.
The station was excluded from the passenger traffic, 20-kro.
