Warsaw. Metro scene at the Bródno station. When opening

A theater is being built at the final M2 Line station station. The Metro scene will open in just over a month.

This is probably the first initiative of this type in the world. The theater stage in the space of the Bródno metro station is a private initiative of the Slightly Culture Foundation, dealing with, among others production of theater performances.

Scene, audience and foyer

– We were looking for a place for rehearsals for actors with whom we regularly cooperate and informal theater groups. Renting a room or a theater stage is a big cost for them. That is why we want to create a space where these attempts can be implemented, and their final effect will be the performance of the spectacle – explains Kamil Obara in an interview with tvnwarszawa.pl, president of the SWEAL CULTURE Foundation.

In a space with an area of ​​over 200 square meters, there will be a stage, the audience for 70 places technical facilities, and even small foyer with coffee tables. What will happen in the repertoire of the Metro scene?

– We are not focused on a specific species of theater. We want to exhibit performances for children and adolescents, but also for adults. Organize events for seniors, not only performances, but also small recitals, concerts or evenings with poetry – lists Obara. – The idea is that this place is teeming with life from morning to late evening seven days a week – he adds.

The President of the Foundation assures that there are no passing trains in the premises rented to the theater. – Trains run lower, and the rooms above the station are well muted – says Obara.

The Metro scene will open on March 27 on International Theater Day. At the moment, intensive finishing works are underway in the theater. Tickets for performances organized in the Metro scene will cost around PLN 50-70. But, as Kamil Obara emphasizes, the repertoire will also include events with cheaper tickets, as well as completely free. These in particular will be directed to seniors.

Library heavily delayed

At the second station of the second M2 metro line, i.e. Kondratowicz, in one of the premises The authorities of the Targówek District have planned a branch of the public library. In August 2023, officials reported that the library in the subway would be transferred from the existing institution located at Kondratowicza Street 23. The opening was planned for the first quarter of 2024.

The deadline could not be kept because there were problems with the contractor. When the library was almost ready, the contract with the contractor was broken. “This decision results from serious irregularities in the implementation of work, including not applying materials in line with fire safety requirements,” argued in October last year Tomasz Kowalski, director of the Public Library at the Targówek district of the city of Warsaw.

It was necessary to find a new contractor. Currently, the procedure is ongoing. – The proceedings related to the selection of a new contractor have already been announced. We are waiting for the decision. We hope that it will be selected by the end of the first quarter of this year – said Paulina Borzecka, spokeswoman for the Targówek District Office.
