After the murder of one of the employees of the University of Warsaw, Thursday will be a day of mourning at the university, and classes were canceled. The President of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski is shocked.

In the afternoon on The University of Warsaw had a macabre crime. A woman attacked with an ax on the campus is dead. The police detained a young man, a student.

“In connection with the situation (…) on May 8, 2025, I announce a day of mourning at the University of Warsaw,” reads the rector of the University of Warsaw prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak and the Rector's College of the University of Warsaw published on the university's website. The entry said that on Wednesday “in the afternoon the community of the University of Warsaw was affected by a huge tragedy.”

“Our friend, an employee of the University of Warsaw, was murdered in a brutal way. An employee of the university guard was also seriously injured,” reads the communiqué. “We express great regret and compassion to the family and loved ones,” he added.

On platform X, Minister of Science Marcin Kulasek wrote that he is in constant contact with the Rector of the University of Warsaw. He assured that “the university community can count on my full support in this difficult time.” “In the face of this drama, I am with my family and close victim. I would like to express their deepest compassion” – wrote the minister.

The University of Warsaw reminded on its website that “the university provides support to all those in need of help.” “At the University of Warsaw, there are an emergency telephone, trust phone and a psychological assistance center” – noted.

Classes and Juwenalia canceled

– This is an unusual tragedy. There is a crisis staff at the site, chaired by the university rector. Tomorrow, a meeting with the Minister of Science and Higher Education is also planned – said the spokeswoman of the University of Warsaw Anna Modzelewska.

– We provided psychological help. Employees of the Psychological Assistance Center of our University went to the place and all people who feel the desire to get such help are affected by this situation, we invite you to the Psychological Assistance Center – she said.

Thursday classes at the university were canceled. Anna Modzelewska confirmed that the day of mourning was announced on Thursday. – Classes are canceled, there is also no work at the university and tomorrow is the day of mourning.

Events at the University of Warsaw were also dismissed. “In connection with the tragic events that occurred on May 7 and which affected the entire community of the University of Warsaw, out of respect for the victim and its loved ones, we inform the club juwenalia 2025: DJ Cold stew scheduled for May 8 is canceled” – it was canceled “

The President of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski reacted to the tragedy. “I was shocked by information about the macabre crime at the campus of the University of Warsaw. A huge compassion for the family and the murdered relatives. I also hope that a wounded man who helps will return to full health” – he wrote on social media.

“This brutal attack must meet with a strict punishment,” he added.
