There are six of them on the Poniatowski Bridge. This will change soon. Two speed cameras are to disappear by the end of the year. This is the recommendation of the Masovian Provincial Conservator of Monuments.
– We received recommendations from the conservator to remove the two middle speed cameras from the Poniatowski Bridge. We are currently looking for another place for them. We still have to reach an agreement on this matter with the Chief Road Transport Inspector, said Jakub Dybalski, spokesman for the Municipal Roads Authority.
He emphasized that this should be completed by the end of this year.
– It may turn out that the four speed cameras that will remain on the bridge and the two in new locations will be even better used than before – said the spokesman when asked about safety.
“Speed control on the bridge is necessary”
The City Jest Nasz association commented on the dismantling of the speed cameras. “We believe this is a very bad decision. Speed control on the bridge is necessary, and dismantling two speed cameras before an alternative solution is found is absurd. Let us remember the history of tragic accidents in this place,” activists wrote on social media.
At the same time, they emphasized that they strongly support statutory changes that will simplify the installation of aesthetic and inconspicuous speed cameras. “We are in the 21st century and a speed camera does not have to look like a big yellow refrigerator,” they added.
According to the conservator, they interfere with the stone benches
There are six speed cameras on the historic Poniatowski Bridge from 2021. Already at the time of their installation, the Masovian conservator informed that the two middle ones should be dismantled due to their location interfering with the structure of the stone benches (within the seats). According to the recommendations, the speed cameras were to be removed in December 2023, but due to the prolonged renovation of the bridge, the deadline for their dismantling was extended until the end of 2024.
The current Masovian Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments, Marcin Dawidowicz, confirmed that he maintained the recommendations regarding the dismantling of two speed cameras issued by his predecessor – prof. Jakub Lewicki.
