Trams announce that the construction of the tram route to the West Railway Station is entering the next stage. At the beginning of February, the contractor will play part of the intersection of Grójecka Streets, the Battle of Warsaw 1920 and Banacha. The reconstruction of underground installations will begin. Drivers will go differently, trams will run unchanged for now.
The new tram route is to improve access to the Western Railway Station, which becomes the most important interchange of western districts of Warsaw. The tram, which will take passengers directly to the platform area, is an important element of the reconstruction and expansion of the railway station. The implementation of this investment is associated with difficulties.
Difficulties for drivers
At the beginning of February, the contractor of the investment – a consortium of ZUE and Fabe companies – will close the Grójecka road towards Aleja Krakowska, at the intersection from the Battle of Warsaw 1920. Ruch in both directions will take place on the road, which drivers currently go to the center. Temporary tips through the track will be built: behind BaÅ›niowa Street – at the height of the Grójecka 70 building and behind the Hale Banach stop – at the height of the Grójecka 114 building. On the binds, for safety, traffic lights will stand.
Drivers going to the center will have one lane at their disposal, and in the direction of the Italian district – two. From OkÄ™cie they will not turn left, in the Battle of Warsaw 1920. In turn, from the center side they will only go straight – they will not turn into Banach and the Battle of Warsaw 1920. Therefore, the routes will change the buses of the line: 154, 167, 191, 208, 414 and 521.
There will be no entry from Grójecka in Opaczewska, but a trip from Opaczewska to Grójecka will be preserved.

Further changes in traffic organization
This is not the end of the changes. The section of the Warsaw battle of 1920 will be extended, where only one road takes place – to the intersection with Grójecka. In both directions, the drivers will travel on the road customary for driving towards the Siberian Exile roundabout. There will be one belt towards the roundabout. In turn, in the direction of Grójecka, before the intersection, two will be designated: one to turn left, to the center, and the other for driving straight in Banach or to the right turn towards Aleja Krakowska.

The organization of traffic at the intersection of Grójecka, the Battle of Warsaw 1920 and Banach will change as the works progress. In the following stages, the inlets of Banacha and Battle of Warsaw 1920 streets will be closed, and the tram traffic to the Banach loop and P+R al. Krakowska. The necessary break in traffic tram will use to renovate the track between Narutowicza Square and the Battle of Warsaw 1920. The details of the works stage are being determined and will be presented in the coming weeks. Important changes in the organization of traffic at the intersection of Grójecka, the Battle of Warsaw 1920 and Banach will persist until the end of the year.
Later construction of a new track system
Under the intersection of Grójecka Street from the Battle of Warsaw 1920 and Banacha, important master's installations run, which needs to be rebuilt: heating network, water magistrates, gas network, power and teletechnical networks and a sewage network. Pursuant to the regulations, underground installations must be at the right distance from infrastructure on the surface. All networks will also be protected against trams.
After the underground work is completed, the construction of a new track system will start. A so -called full star will be created here, enabling trams to move in all directions. The emergence of new relationships for trams requires adaptation of the drainage network, traffic and power control networks.
The reconstruction also takes into account the consumption of existing, often worn out installations. Thanks to the work carried out, the risk of digging the intersection and the newly built infrastructure due to devices will be eliminated.
Progress of work
Along the Batvae Street of 1920, the tunnel inlet leading to the Western Railway Station is being built and reconstruction of the collision of underground installations with a planned communication system. The walls of the tunnel running through the Park of Five Sisters are already ready in 50 percent. The tunnel structure is also created under the traffic of Aleja Jerozolimskie.

At the same time, as part of another contract, the first underground tram stop at the West Railway Station is being built in Warsaw. Budimex, the general contractor for the entire reconstruction of the railway station, is responsible for its construction. The construction of the stop is ready, at the moment the construction of staircases, elevator and ventilation shafts, technical rooms and a ramp walls are underway. Finishing work began at level -1.
New tram route
As part of the investment, a 1.6-kilometer route with a 500-meter tram tunnel will be built. The underground end stop will be next to the descent to the West Dworzec and will be connected by escalator and elevators directly with the underground crossing, extended as part of works at the railway station. Travelers will also get to the existing bus station.
According to estimates, over 1.2 million passengers will use the new route a year. The tram travel time to Grójecka will be five minutes, to Narutowicza 10, and to the Polytechnika metro station – 15 minutes.

The route to the West Railway Station is part of the so -called The tram to Wilanów, i.e. a route that will connect his will, willingness to Mokotów and Wilanów. The investment, due to the scope, is divided into stages – some are already functioning, some are under construction and some in design. Last year, two episodes were launched – in May in Sielce, and at the end of October to Wilanów. About 4.5 million passengers benefited from lines 14 and 16 to mid -January, of which nearly two million on the new section.
