Work on the construction of three new stations of the second metro line is progressing. The shield helps Anna, who created an 1,800-meter tunnel for the underground railway, and sister Krystyna – 1,200 meters. A tower is emerging at the technical and parking station from which it will be possible to control train traffic.

As Anna Bartoń, spokeswoman for the Warsaw Metro, assured, December failure at the construction site of the Chrzanów station it was removed quickly and did not cause any delays. “The underground mission is consistently carried out by TBM shields Anna and Krystyna, which are drilling tunnels towards the new Lazurowa station,” she assured.

1,800 and 1,200 meters of tunnel excavated

On its way from Karolina to Lazurowa, Tarcza Anna has already covered over half of the route and laid over 1.1 thousand so-called tubing, i.e. rings forming the tunnel casing. Currently, the shield is already about 700 meters behind the Chrzanów station under construction, and in total it has drilled about 1,800 meters of tunnel. She is kept up by her second target, Krystyna, who has completed over 750 tubing runs and covered a total distance of 1,200 meters.

“At the Lazurowa stop, the construction of diaphragm walls and a bottom slab has been completed. Meanwhile, the construction poles of the new stop are being built underground,” Bartoń described.

Progress can also be seen at the Karolin station. Most of the station's structure is completed. Work is also underway on its part located under the road of Połczyńska Street and in the turnout chamber.

“The construction of STP Karolin is well advanced, where metro trains will be serviced and administrative buildings will be located. The reconstruction of the conflicting part of the high-voltage line has been completed, thanks to which it will be possible to build further structures,” noted the Warsaw Metro spokeswoman.

In some buildings the walls are being painted, in others tiling work is in progress. Service channels are being built in the future locomotive depot, over which trains will run so that employees can inspect them. The structure of the signal box, i.e. the tower from which train traffic on the STP is controlled, is also already visible.

As described by Metro Warszawskie, from the upper levels you can see the construction site, including the tunnel through which trains will enter the M2 line from the maintenance station. So far, 30 percent of the turnouts and 12 percent of the tracks have been laid at the technical and staging station.

Four kilometers of underground railway

The section under construction is almost four kilometers long. There will be three passenger stations (Karolin, Chrzanów, Lazurowa), STP Karolin and two route fan rooms. As Bartoń assured, the new episode will be ready in 2026.
