On Saturday, eight more trucks with aid collected by Warsaw residents for flood victims in southwestern Poland set off from the premises of the Municipal Water and Sewage Company in Warsaw to Lower Silesia.

A few minutes earlier, the mayor of Warsaw, RafaƂ Trzaskowski, held a press briefing, during which he said that Warsaw had already sent almost 40 trucks with necessary items for the flood victims to the flooded areas, and that aid was also delivered to hard-to-reach regions using smaller vehicles.

Trzaskowski also passed on a message from local government officials from the south-west of the country. – Today, they are mainly asking for cleaning products, they are asking for shovels, thick bags, gloves, rubber boots, dryers, brushes, mops, cloths. Today begins the time for cleaning, the big cleaning – he said.

He stressed that collecting food and water, so important at the beginning of the flood, is now becoming less important.

– In addition to the material support that we are constantly collecting and sending, I initiated the transfer of PLN 20 million in financial support to Nysa, KƂodzko, Lądek-ZdrĂłj and GƂuchoƂazy. I am very glad that the Warsaw City Council agreed to this aid, he said.

They will accept children from flood areas for green schools

He added that the capital city authorities also want to help flooded educational institutions by organizing so-called green schools for children. – We propose 900 places for so-called green schools in education and training centers and in institutions in Warsaw – said Rafal Trzaskowski.

Among the places that could accept children from areas affected by the flood, the city president mentioned the facility in Powsin, Agrykola, the shelter on DƂuga and the municipal centers in Mielno and Kazimierz Dolny. He assured that all of them offer accommodation and meals, and the costs of the children's stay will be covered by Warsaw.

During the briefing, President Trzaskowski thanked the residents of Warsaw, city employees, waterworks employees, as well as police officers and firefighters for their involvement in helping the flood victims, thanks to whose escort help can reach the flooded areas faster.

He added that currently, the help of electricians is needed in southwestern Poland, and Warsaw will therefore send experts in this field there.
