Someone stole an Alfa Romeo worth PLN 124,000. When the police reached the suspects, they avoided talking and then pretended they had no idea what was going on. However, the car we were looking for was found, along with partially burned license plates. Nearly 47,000 cigarettes were also seized.
Police officers from “Kobra” were working on the case of a stolen Alfa Romeo worth PLN 124,000. After receiving the report, they started taking action. They determined that the vehicle may be located on one of the properties in Wołomin County.
“At least two people could be heard and even seen in the house. Unfortunately, no one responded to knocking and ringing the doorbell, the police ordered the door to be opened, but unfortunately it did not help. Only the information about forced entry was effective. In the meantime, the operational officers saw that a woman and a man went down to the basement and garage,” described Sub-Inspector Joanna Węgrzyniak from the Warsaw VII District Police Headquarters in a statement.
Boards on fire, engine without numbers
When the police were allowed into the house, they saw a 50-year-old woman wearing a bathrobe, although a moment ago she had been wearing jeans and a blouse. As the officers described, the woman pretended to be sleepy and had no idea what was happening. The man, in turn, claimed that he didn't hear anything because he was lighting a fire in the boiler room. “Each of them assured that they knew nothing about Alfa Romeo and that they did not have this car,” Węgrzyniak added.
The officers were not fooled and found the car they were looking for. According to them, his license plates were burned in the fire started by the 52-year-old. “During the search, they also found various car parts, including two engines with removed numeric fields, which will be subjected to mechanoscopic tests,” Węgrzyniak noted.
Cigarettes without excise duty
The intervention included one more discovery. “Operationists from 'Kobra' also seized 46,900 pieces of cigarettes of various brands without Polish excise tax stamps, with the risk of reducing excise tax receivables amounting to almost PLN 50,000. From both detainees, the police seized a total of over PLN 139,000,” Węgrzyniak reported.
A 50-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man were charged with committing jointly and in concert theft of a car and fiscal crimes. The proceedings in this case are supervised by the District Prosecutor's Office in Wołomin.
