The Warsaw Zoo has another new resident. This time it's a small Somali donkey named Zuzia. You'll soon be able to see her in the enclosure.

The zoo informed about the new resident on its Facebook profile. “Meet Zuzia. She is a Somali donkey who was born on June 22. Unfortunately, her mother did not take care of the young one, which sometimes happens both in nature and in zoos, especially with first-borns. In nature, an abandoned baby is doomed to death, in the zoo we have a chance to help and take it for so-called artificial rearing. This was also the case with Zuzia. Instead of a helpless mother, she is now cared for by as many as nine human fathers,” it was written.

SEE: They rest and sleep hanging upside down. They are one of the smallest parrots in the world.

She stole the hearts of her guardians

Zuzia has stolen the hearts of her caregivers. As emphasized in the entry, “the gentlemen have been taking care of the little one non-stop for several weeks, feeding her, dressing her wounds and watching over her at night.”

Zuzia suffered a few abrasions on her legs during delivery, but the wounds are healing quickly. She will soon be moved to the exhibition enclosure (for now, she will be separated from the other females).

SEE ALSO: “The little one is shy and likes to be curled up into a ball the most.”

“Thanks to the dedication and commitment of the caregivers and veterinarians, the baby was saved”

“This will be the best for her, although her guardians will certainly miss the company of the charming Zuzanka, who loved her “daddies” so much that she would often go up the stairs to the social room out of longing, and even look into the shower. We are very pleased that thanks to the dedication and commitment of the guardians and veterinarians, we managed to save the little one, especially since this species is critically endangered in nature,” it added.

SEE ALSO: It has a sweet and fluffy appearance, but it is a “powerful predator”. The Spirit of the Mountains was born in Warsaw.

Somali Wild Ass is a subspecies of the African wild ass. There are probably between 700 and 1,000 individuals left in the wild, in Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea and Ethiopia. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species describes the species as “critically endangered”. There are also about 200 individuals in captivity in more than 30 zoos.
