The weather front that brought snow, sleet and freezing rain last night is now pushing very warm air into Central Europe. – This temperature jump is very noticeable and sudden – Tomasz Wasilewski said on TVN24.
For the next few days, Poland will be in a stream of warm air that entered Central Europe from the Mediterranean Sea.
– This Monday changes everything about the weather for a while. After yesterday's -17 degrees in the morning, today at this time it's plus 10 degrees. In some places it warmed by almost 20 degrees. This temperature jump is very noticeable and sudden – said Tomasz Wasilewski, presenter of tvnmeteo.pl, in “You get up and know” on TVN24. – This warm air entered Central Europe so much that it pushed the frosty, Arctic air far to the north of the continent – he added. As a result, thermometers in central Sweden showed -31 degrees Celsius on Monday morning.
As the presenter of tvnmeteo.pl reported, the frost was pushed away by the atmospheric front that has been moving over Poland since Sunday evening. – On Monday morning he was in the north of the country – said Wasilewski. This front brought snow, sleet and freezing rain. – This front changes everything because it brings warming and lets very warm air into Central Europe – he added.
Inversion in the mountains
On Sunday morning, the thermometers in Gubałówka showed -9 degrees Celsius. – On Monday morning, 24 hours later, it was already 18 degrees higher. There is a temperature inversion in the mountains. IN Zakopane it is about zero degrees, on Gubałówka it is 9 degrees, and on Kasprowy Wierch it is 3 degrees – said Wasilewski. Temperature inversion is an increase in air temperature with height.
– We have an absolutely revolutionary change in the weather in Poland, if we look at the temperature. The snow is melting and will disappear quite quickly, he added.
This is not the end of the winter weather
Does Monday's warming up mean the end of winter? – No, it's not the end of winter. Further cooling is expected during the upcoming weekend, when Arctic air will return again, Wasilewski said.
The tvnmeteo.pl presenter noted that winters in Poland have been very unstable over the last several decades. – I don't remember the last time there was such a winter that it started and lasted without any breaks. Recently, thaws have been interrupted by short episodes of cold, he added.
