Legia Warszawa started the competition in the Europa Conference League brilliantly, with four victories. Moreover, she scored 11 goals in these matches, without conceding a single one. All this gives her second place in the overall table. She has the last two rounds of the league stage ahead of her and it seems that promotion, even direct promotion, is almost in her pocket. Unfortunately, it looks like they will have to cope without several key players in these two matches. It's practically official.
Legia Warszawa seriously weakened. Vinagre and Augustyniak are out of the game
All because of injuries to Ruben Vinagre and Rafał Augustyniak, which the fans found out about after Sunday's match against Zagłębie Lubin (3-0). The first of them did not play at all in this match, and Goncalo Feio informed that the Portuguese suffered a serious ankle injury.. However, it was not known what specific injury we were talking about.
On Sunday, just before 10 p.m., everything became clear. Legia published a statement regarding Vinagre. This is not optimistic news. It turns out that the player's injury occurred on Thursday. “He suffered an ankle injury with a ligament tear as a result of clashes with rivals during the Polish Cup match against ŁKS Łódź. The player's break will last approximately six weeks,” we read in the official statement. This means that he will not appear on the pitch this year.
And this was not the end of bad news for Legia fans and staff. Vinagre is not the only player without whom the capital team will most likely have to cope in the coming days. The second of them is the mentioned Augustyniak. He suffered an injury in the first half of the match against Zagłębie Lubin. He was unable to finish the match.
“Rafał Augustyniak suffered a fracture around the wrist with bone displacement. The player went to the hospital during the match, where he underwent first tests. Tomorrow, the defender will undergo further tests before surgery on the injured hand,” we read. For now, the club does not know how long the player's recovery will take. And there is really little time for it.
Important matches before Legia in LKE. One step up
On Thursday, Legia will face Lugano in the 5th round of LKE. A week later, its rival will be Djurgardens. These are the last two matches Goncalo Feio's players will play this year. And the absence of Vinagre, as well as the possible absence of Augustyniak, will certainly be a significant weakening for them. After all, the former has already played 27 matches for Legia this season, including four in the LKE league stage – there he made two assists, and a total of nine in all competitions.
Augustyniak also played in each of the matches of the LKE league phase, scoring an assist. In total, he played 26 matches this season, scoring four goals and adding two assists.
