Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the government had adopted a migration strategy. The prosecutor's office brought charges against former Deputy Minister of Justice Marcin Romanowski. The auditors of the Supreme Audit Office entered the National Center for Research and Development and the Polish Olympic Committee. Here are seven things to know on Wednesday, October 16.

1. Migration strategy adopted

“Migration strategy adopted. A difficult decision, but very necessary and expected,” wrote Donald Tusk, after several hours of government deliberations on this matter.

The chairwoman of the Left's parliamentary club, Anna Maria Żukowska, noted that the strategy “was adopted with the dissenting opinions of the four constitutional ministers of the Left” because “one fragment of it (…) is unacceptable.”

2. The Prime Minister flies to the European Council summit

Donald Tusk flies to a two-day summit of the European Council in Brussels, where the leaders will talk, among other things, about migration.

The Prime Minister assured that he intended to be “absolutely tough” and “ruthless”. – We will not respect or implement any European, EU ideas if we are sure that they undermine our security – he said, referring to the pact on migration and asylum adopted in May this year.

3. Romanowski was charged

The prosecutor's office brought charges against former Deputy Minister of Justice Marcin Romanowski. – The prosecutor slightly modified the legal classification of several of these acts – said Przemysław Nowak, spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office.

According to Romanowski and his defense attorney, the actions of the prosecutor's office are “unlawful.” No preventive measures were taken against the PiS MP.

4. NIK auditors joined the NCBR and the IOC

The auditors of the Supreme Audit Office started at the headquarters of the National Center for Research and Development control special. This is the first such audit in this term and probably in this decade – said the director of the Supreme Audit Office's branch office in Białystok, Janusz Pawelczyk.

The Supreme Audit Office also started control in the Polish Olympic Committee. – We are examining contracts that are financed from public funds – it was announced.

5. The “trial of the century” has started

The trial of the former president of the private bank BES (Banco Espirito Santo), Ricardo Salgado, one of the most influential Portuguese businessmen of recent decades, has begun.

There were 17 people on the stand in the “trial of the century” – they allegedly committed over 300 crimes, including managing a criminal organization, laundering money, forging documents and intentionally disinforming bank customers.

6. The tragic outcome of floods in Africa

The prolonged rainy season has worsened the dire flood situation in West and Central Africa this year.

Nearly 1,500 deaths were reported and hundreds of thousands of homes were destroyed or damaged, according to United Nations data.

7. Great emotions at the National Stadium
