Who can become Franciszek's successor? – There are several people who are talking about all the media – said in “This is the journalist Tomasz Terlikowski. He pointed to the name that appears most often. Father Przemysław Śliwiński talked about when the conclave could take place and how much it will take.
Key facts:
- During the planned at the beginning of May, the conclave of 135 cardinals will choose a new pope
- The so -called “papabili”, i.e. letters with the names of the potential successors of Franciszek, are created in the media and among experts.
- Who is their favorite? About this, but not only, the guests said “yes”.
After the death of Pope Francis, they take place in Vatican Congregations of cardinals, during which decisions are made regarding subsequent steps and preparations for the conclave. Publicist Tomasz Terlikowski and priest Przemysław Śliwiński, spokesman for the Archdiocese of Warsaw and the author of the book “Concrete. Secrets of papal elections”, they said on “Yes,” on TVN24 about who is mentioned among the favorites to become a new head of the Catholic church.
As Fr. Śliwiński, the media already publish the letters of “papabili” – that is, from Italian those who can become a pope. – But the question is whether to believe this type of letter – he noted.
According to Terlikowski, “such a favorite, as he was after the pontificate of John Paul II – and it was a cardinal (Joseph – ed.) Ratzinger – there is no.” – It must be said quite clearly – he noted. – Of course, there are several people who all the media talk about. There are also such letters, not even “papabili”, but such dreams of certain environments in the church – he continued.

Terlikowski: This surname is the most common
When asked whether a new pope may become a black priest, Terlikowski noticed that “at this stage we have 16 cardinals from Africa”, and “Three appears on various letters of” papabili “.
This is, for example, Cardinal Robert Sarah. As the TVN24 guest said, the priest is 80 years old (he is in June) and this is the “little papal” age. – And secondly, (there is – ed.) Rather, belonging to such a very traditional party liturgically. This is not necessarily the strongest party – he explained.
– The second is Cardinal Fridolin Ambong, Metropolitan of Kinshasa. This is a very young figure, year 1960. It does not seem – here I will say cautiously – that the cardinals would like a relatively young pope, because he can still be 20, 30 years. They don't really want it. Secondly, from the perspective of some western cardinals, he is very conservative – he described.
And he clarified: – The African Church has, for example, a problem, (…) with a clear saying that punishment with prison or even more for homosexual acts is something bad. This is the conservatism we are talking about.

– I (Peter – ed.) Turkson is the third cardinal to be mentioned. For a change (…) he is just in time (he is 76 – ed.) – he said. He also pointed out that he was “a close associate of Pope Francis, involved in many of his projects.” – But at some point he himself said that he had enough conflicts in the curia (Roman – ed.) And he resigned – reminded the publicist.
At the same time, he noted that “one of the tasks that will be set before the new Pope (…) is to complete the reform, order the Roman Curia.” “Someone who gave up because he could not cope, he is not a candidate,” he said.
Terlikowski emphasized that “the name of Cardinal Pietro Parolin is most often.” “This is the most common candidate,” he said.

When the conclave? How much will it take?
Father Śliwiński estimated that the conclave will probably take place on May 6 and it will be short. “Because there is no reason to make it long,” he said.
– The history of the last conclave shows that all the elements that made the conclave extend to a dozen or so several dozen days were eliminated – he pointed out.
