On Sunday after 4 p.m. in the Sokół hall in Krakow, the convention began with the participation of, among others, president of PiS Jarosław Kaczyński. It was announced that the president of PiS was the president Institute of National Remembrance Karol Nawrocki.
Before Nawrocki's speech, Kaczyński took the floor. The PiS president stated that the party had decided to support an “independent candidate”, although Law and Justice it had – as he assessed – “excellent party candidates of its own”. – There are many names to mention, but I will limit myself to three: Przemysław CzarnekTobiasz Bocheński i Mariusz Błaszczak – he said.
Nawrocki is not a member of Law and Justice or any other party. The President of the Institute of National Remembrance is prohibited from doing so by law. PiS presents him as a “civic” candidate.
– I want to explain our motives, the motives of the Law and Justice party, which decided to nominate a non-party candidate, an independent candidate, a candidate whom many of our outstanding activists, including those at the very top, did not know closely. Our decision was determined by the personal advantages of Dr. Karol Nawrocki, his life path and also the fact that today we are in a special state – an internal war, a Polish-Polish war. We do not want this war, Kaczyński said. This is why, according to Kaczyński, “we need a credible person, independent of the political formation, who will have the will and the ability to end this war.”

Kaczyński: we decided he was the best candidate
– We decided to support the president, Dr. Karol Nawrocki, because we decided that it was simply in the interest of our homeland, Poland. We decided he was the best candidate. And what lies ahead? What happens after today's meeting? A lot of work was done in the campaign to protect these elections, Kaczyński admitted.
He also referred to his speech from ten years ago, when he announced that he would be PiS's candidate for president Andrzej Duda. – It is something very moving for me after ten years when I said here that today's president, Mr. Andrzej Duda, could be a candidate for president. At that time, many people did not believe. Today I see that this faith exists and it should prevail – argued the PiS president.
