Witnesses stopped the 41-year-old woman from driving, as she reeked of alcohol. She got behind the wheel of an Opel with almost three per mille in her system. However, her zigzagging and unjustified reversing aroused suspicion among other drivers.

A drunk Opel driver drove out onto the streets of Sieradz on Wednesday morning. She was spotted on Sportowa Street, before the intersection.

“When the traffic light turned green, the Opel began to reverse. The BMW driver standing directly behind it, trying to avoid a collision, moved into another lane. At one point, the Opel moved forward and then drove from the right to the left edge of the roadway. The driver's driving style immediately aroused suspicion,” reads the Łódź police in a statement.

The drivers following the Opel notified the police. They also took action on their own. “The BMW driver quickly ran and took the keys out of the ignition. It turned out that the driver of the Opel was a woman who smelled of alcohol,” the police said.

It turned out that the 41-year-old driver was drunk. A breathalyzer test showed almost three per mille of alcohol in her system.

The woman has already lost her driving license. Driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated carries a sentence of up to three years in prison, a driving ban of at least three years, and a hefty fine.

The police thank the witnesses for their response. “The police are appealing, if you see a drunk driver – react! You can inform the police about any disturbing situation by calling 112. We would like to remind you that every witness of a crime has the right to catch the perpetrator red-handed. Citizenship is a privilege that results from Article 243 of the Code of Conduct Criminal. However, it should be remembered that such a person must be handed over to the police immediately,” the police remind us.
