Wojcieszków. He hit four cars and tried to escape. He was stopped by a policeman in a corn field.

The incident occurred on Thursday (1 August). Before 6 p.m., the officer on duty at the Łuków police station was notified about a green Audi driving “in a snake-like manner” towards Wojcieszków. When the officer on duty was directing the police there, he received another call with information about a road accident involving the described car.

The officers who arrived at the indicated location determined that five vehicles were involved in the accident. “Their findings showed that the driver of the Audi collided with a Peugeot cargo van that was being overtaken and a Scania truck that was traveling in the opposite direction. Then he hit a Renault car traveling behind the truck, and then a Volkswagen Golf traveling in front of it,” reported Staff Sergeant Marcin Józwik from the Łuków County Police Headquarters.

As he added, the green Audi “landed” in a roadside ditch, and the driver tried to escape from the scene. “A witness to the incident, a police officer from the Warsaw Police Headquarters, who was driving nearby, stopped the fleeing man in a corn field and later handed him over to uniformed officers from the Łuków traffic police,” Józwik said.

As a result of the incident, the 32-year-old driver of the Volkswagen suffered bodily injuries and was transported to a specialist hospital by an emergency medical helicopter. According to the police, her injuries are not life-threatening.

All the drivers, except for the 29-year-old Audi driver, were sober. The 29-year-old had over 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his system. Additionally, the officers determined that the man had been previously convicted several times for driving while intoxicated.

“On Thursday, while driving an Audi, he violated four (including two lifetime) court driving bans,” said the spokesman for the Łuków police.

The 29-year-old was arrested and spent the night in a police cell. He will hear the charges today.
