Wrocław. Doomed to a ruthless prison for acting to the detriment of the Polish Red Cross

The Court of Appeal in Wrocław convicted the former director of the Lower Silesian Branch of the Polish Red Cross, Jerzy G., to three years in prison. Piotr B., a former PiS MP and vice president of the board, heard a sentence of 16 months. The court decided that they both acted to the detriment of the Polish Red Cross, causing losses of PLN 3 million as a result of fraud.

In May 2023, the Wrocław court did not unlave eight people accused in the trial regarding action to the detriment of the Polish Red Cross. At that time, judgments were passed from a year in prison suspended up to 3.5 years of absolute imprisonment for former director Jerzy G. The organization was to lose PLN 3 million as a result of fraud. Among the convicts are also were PiS MP Piotr B.

The court of first instance found all the accused guilty of the alleged offenses, except for the former president of the Lower Silesian Branch of the Polish Red Cross and the former city councilor and voivodship PiS Rafał H., whom he acquitted.

The highest punishment was then heard by the former director of the Lower Silesian Polish Red Cross and former voivodship councilor Jerzy G. The court imposed on him 3.5 years of ruthless prison. Piotr B., a former PiS MP and former vice president of the Lower Silesian PCK, was sentenced in the first instance to two years and seven months in prison. The other accused were sentenced to sentences from one to 1.5 years in prison. Two of them the court imposed suspended penalties.

Judgments in the appeal process

The appeal process in this matter began at the end of January 2025. On Thursday, the Court of Appeal ruled that Jerzy G. would spend 3 years in prison and was to give the Polish Red Cross over PLN 1.5 million. Piotr B. was reduced to 16 months in prison. Rafał H., against whom the prosecutor filed for conviction, the court again acquitted.

To the two accused Bartłomiej Ł.-T. and Dorota J. Court ordered for procedural reasons to repeat the entire trial. The verdict is final.
