IMGW has issued weather alerts. On Sunday, almost all of Poland will experience sweltering heat. First and second degree alerts are in effect.

Forecasters of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMWM) issued level one and level two warnings on a three-level, ascending scale.

IMWM warnings of the second degree – heat

Second-degree heat warnings, marked in orange, were issued in the following provinces:

  • lubuskieoutside the north-eastern counties;
  • Lower Silesianexcluding counties located in the south of the region;
  • Greater Polandin the southern counties;
  • Opole province;
  • Lodzin the southern counties;
  • Silesianoutside the following counties: Cieszyn, Bielsko, Bielsko-Biala and Żywiec;
  • Lesser Polandin the northern half of the region;
  • Świętokrzyskiein the southern counties;
  • Lublin Provincein southern and southeastern counties;
  • Subcarpathianexcluding southern counties.

In the above regions, maximum daytime temperatures are forecast to range from 31 to 35 degrees Celsius. The warnings will be valid until 20 on Sunday.

First degree IMWM warnings – heat

IMWM issued heatwave alerts for the following voivodeships:

  • Pomeranian;
  • West Pomeranianoutside northern counties;
  • Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship;
  • Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship;
  • Greater Polandoutside southern counties;
  • lubuskiein the north-eastern counties;
  • Masovian;
  • Podlaskie;
  • Łódźexcluding the southern counties;
  • Świętokrzyskieexcluding the southern counties;
  • Lower Silesiain the southern counties;
  • Silesianin the counties of Cieszyn, Bielsk, Bielsko-Biała and Żywiec;
  • Lublinin the northern and central counties;
  • Lesser Polandin the southern counties;
  • Subcarpathianin the counties located in the south;

Maximum temperatures during the day will be 32-34 degrees Celsius. The warnings will come into effect at 10 or 11 a.m. on Sunday and will expire at 8 p.m. the same day.

The first level warning provides for conditions conducive to the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena that may cause material losses and pose a threat to health and life. The second level warning predicts the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena causing significant material losses and a threat to health and life. Dangerous phenomena or the effects of their occurrence significantly limit business activity. Expect disruptions to your daily functioning. Great caution is recommended, it is necessary to monitor the weather forecasts and developments. Follow all recommendations issued by emergency services in the event of an emergency. Adjust your plans to weather conditions.
