Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on social media that he spoke by phone with Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Wednesday. The topic of the conversation was further support for Kiev. Zelensky revealed that he also talked to Tusk about Ukraine's expectations in connection with Poland taking over the presidency of the EU Council at the beginning of the coming year.
“I spoke with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. I thanked the Polish nation for its solidarity with Ukraine from the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion, and the Prime Minister for his personal, decisive response to the latest Russian shelling and attempts to end the political isolation of Russian dictator Putin,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
He added that he “discussed the continuation of military cooperation” with the Prime Minister. “The Prime Minister informed me that his country is preparing to submit the 45th support package and has already started work on another such package,” the Ukrainian president emphasized.
Expectations related to the Polish presidency of the EU Council
Zelensky revealed that he also talked to Tusk about expectations Ukraine in connection with Poland taking over the presidency of the EU Council at the beginning of the coming year.
“I count on Poland's support in the process of negotiations with the EU – on the opening of the first negotiation chapter and the parallel opening of other chapters,” Zelensky said.
“I also thanked Donald Tusk for using his extensive contacts to support the process of Ukraine's accession to NATO and continuing military assistance to Ukraine,” added the Ukrainian president.
The Ukrainian head of state also said that he had arranged a meeting with Tusk, which “will take place by the end of this year.”
